One Team Fellows

The One Team Fellows Program is designed to provide high-level leadership development to include pre-work, classroom instruction, team and organization-wide projects, readings and various other experiences designed to enhance the leadership abilities of the Fellows. The program will be limited to a membership of 15 Fellows.

The One Team Fellows program is designed to provide enhanced development for those who may consider pursuing higher level positions within the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of service to the HSC and currently hold a position where they are responsible for the supervision of one or more team members or faculty with at least 2 years of service with the HSC. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be someone who has engaged in professional development initiatives either internally or external to the HSC within the past few years.

As our capstone course, this highly-selective program provides rigorous high-level leader development to include pre-work, classroom instruction, team and organization-wide projects, readings and various other experiences designed to enhance the leadership abilities.

Learning Objectives: 

Session 1:  History of Higher Education – Authentic Leadership

  • Understand the historical development of higher education

  • Identify key milestones and changes in higher education over time

  • Analyze the impact of societal and cultural factors on the evolution of higher education

  • Define authentic leadership

  • Explore characteristics of authentic leaders

  • Reflect on how they can apply authentic leadership principles

Session 2:  History of TTU – Emotional Intelligence

  • Familiarize with Texas Tech history

  • Acquire perspective on personal Emotional Intelligence

  • Review key insights from IHHP training materials

Session 3:  History of TTUHSC – Developing Influence

  • Familiarization with the history of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

  • Understand why influencing skills are important

  • Recognize the components of effective influence

  • Recognize situation adaptation for influence

Session 4:  Higher Education Law – Team Development

  • Understand the resources available regarding higher education law

  • Understand the expectations of a cohesive team

  • Identify next steps for team health improvement

Session 5:  Facilities – Psychological Safety & Trust

  • Exposure to university facility management principles

  • Understanding health, safety and environmental management of higher education institution

  • Using leadership to ensure psychological safety

  • Discover and explore components of trust

Session 6:  Funding – Adaptability

  • Understanding of university funding processes and sources

  • Discover methods of adaptability as applied in approaches to leadership

  • Recognize instances of adapting leadership response based on situational needs

Session 7:  Human Resources – Critical Thinking & Decision Making

  • Exposure to human resources nuances for senior leaders

  • Identify necessary human resources processes for senior leaders

  • Discover methods to approach decision making

  • Understand techniques used to strengthen critical thinking

Session 8:  Budget – Leadership Well-Being

  • Basic understanding of the TTUHSC budget

  • Discover resources for self-renewal and development

  • Understanding of linking resources to needs

Session 9:  Presence in the Community – Belonging and Coaching

  • Exposure to TTUHSC impact and efforts in the community

  • Discover methods to encourage organizational belonging

  • Discover coaching methods to develop team members

Session 10:  Texas Legislation – Lessons Learned in Leadership

  • Basic familiarization of the Texas legislative process

  • Internalize leadership perspectives from organizational leaders

Session 11:  Technology – Lesson Learned in Leadership

  • Basic familiarization of the current technology infrastructure

  • Internalize leadership perspectives from organizational leaders

Session 12:  Development – Lessons Learned in Leadership

  • Basic familiarization of the methods used to expand alumni relations

  • Internalize leadership perspectives from organizational leaders
