Leadership Foundations

This 6-session program introduces leadership theories and models to TTUHSC team members who have been with TTUHSC for at least 6 months and have an interest in moving into a leadership role within the organization. Leadership Foundation is designed to equip participants with essential leadership skills and knowledge, preparing them for leadership roles within their TTUHSC or departments. The program focuses on foundational principles of leadership, personal development, and practical applications, providing a comprehensive introduction to effective leadership practices.

Learning Objective

The Leadership Foundation Program aims to develop participants' leadership potential by providing them with the necessary tools, skills, and knowledge to become effective and inspiring leaders. The program emphasizes roles leaders may be required to assume, communication, conflict management and resolution, team-building, and enhancing leadership presence.

 

Principles of Leadership: The objective is for each participant to understand the foundations of leadership.

·       Deduce whether leadership is more nature or nurture

·       Summarize key attributes leaders should strive to develop

·       Explain the components of Full Range Leadership Development Model

 

Team Dynamics: The objective is for each participant to evaluate and decide the appropriate leadership skills required to lead their team through each stage of team building.

·       Recall the four stages of team building

·       Give an illustration of each of the five stages

·       Identify three important elements to building positive team dynamics

  

Leadership Communication: The objective is for each participant to understand the principles of communication that are important to be an effective leader.

·       Outline the traits of effective communicators

·       List four elements of the communication process

·       Categorize the four elements of active listening

 

Transforming Conflict into Collaboration: The objective is for each participant to understand the importance of turning conflict into collaboration.

·       Recognize causes of conflict

·       Illustrate the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict model

·       Apply the 6 steps when mediating conflict

 

Feedback Essentials: The objective is for each participant to understand the essential elements when providing feedback.

·       Differentiate between supportive and corrective feedback

·       Compose steps to be taken when conducting a feedback session

·       Describe the Velvet Hammer approach to feedback

 

Building Your Leadership Prescence: The objective is for each participant to understand the importance of being an influential leader.

·       Appraise your leadership acumen

·       Validate how you influence others

·       Demonstrate qualities of a Servant Leader
